After graduation from MHS in 1951, Roger Reitz received a BS degree from Kansas State in 1955, and then earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1959 from the Kansas University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at the KU Medical Center in 1960, Roger served as a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corp., receiving the Army Commendation Medal while serving in Turkey. He returned to Kansas to complete his internship, and then started his medical practice in 1966. He served as a City Commissioner and as Mayor, 12 years on the USD 383 School Board (three terms as President), Director of the USD 383 Foundation, Director of the Manhattan Community Foundation, Director of the Kansas State University Alumni Board and as National President of the KSU Alumni Association.
He received the Rotary Club Manhattan Man of the Year Award in 1999 and was honored as the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce’s Lud Fiser Citizen of the Year in 2003. In 2003, Dr Reitz was also presented by the KU Medical Alumni Association with their Distinguished Alumni Award to graduates of the KU School of Medicine to recognize their outstanding contribution to society and their profession. Roger Reitz was elected to two terms as State Representative for District 67 in the Kansas House of Representatives and then elected Kansas State Senator for District 22.
